A test client lets you experience Practice Better from your client's perspective — so you can preview the client portal, test forms, programs, and other resources before your real clients ever see them. All you need is a secondary email address to get started.
📍 Note: Test clients count toward your plan's client limit. To free up that spot after testing, you can delete the client record. Deactivating the client keeps them in your account and still counts toward your limit.

Before You Begin
You'll need a secondary email address to create your test client account. You cannot use the same email address for both your practitioner account and your test client account.
For example, if your practitioner account uses wendy@wendypractitioner.com, you could use wendy.smith@gmail.com for your test client.
Creating the Test Client Record
- Go to your My Clients page.
- Click the Fast Action Button (the + icon in the bottom-right corner of your screen) and select Add client.
- Enter your test client details, using your secondary email address.
- Select the Create profile and invite client to join Practice Better option.
- Click Add in the top-right corner.
Practice Better will send an invitation email to your secondary email address from notifications@practicebetter.io.
💡 On the Professional plan and above, you can customize the subject line and content of the client invitation email. Learn more about customizing email templates →
Activating Your Test Client Account
- Open your secondary email inbox and look for an email with the subject line "Join [Your Name] on Practice Better."
- Click Activate My Account.
- Set a password, accept the Terms of Service, and click Sign up.
✅ Your test client account is now active. You can sign in to the client portal at any time using your secondary email address and the password you just created.
Viewing both portals at the same time
To test the client experience effectively, you'll want to view your practitioner portal and client portal at the same time. There are two ways to do this.
Opening a private browser window
Sign into your practitioner account in your regular browser, then open a private window in a separate browser (or use a different browser entirely) and sign in as your test client there.
⚠️ Important: You cannot view both portals in the same browser, even in separate tabs.
Open a private window in your preferred browser:
Using the Practice Better mobile app
If you prefer testing on mobile, you can use the Practice Better app. Sign into your practitioner account on one device and your test client account on another, or use the app alongside your desktop browser.
