Claim.MD is our recommended clearinghouse because it's fully integrated into your Practice Better portal. You can run real-time eligibility checks, submit and track claims, receive ERAs, and invoice clients for unpaid portions without leaving Practice Better. This article walks you through a clearinghouse transition that won't disrupt your cash flow.

Before You Begin
📍 Note: The Claim.MD integration is available to practitioners in the USA only. Claim.MD also has a cost. Visit the Claim.MD pricing page for current plans.
Switching involves three separate actions, and each one is required before claims go out through Practice Better:
- Creating a Claim.MD account. This happens on the Claim.MD website.
- Completing enrollment with each payer in Claim.MD. Each practitioner on your team completes their own enrollment.
- Linking your Claim.MD account to Practice Better. Creating an account does not activate the integration until you link it.
Step 1: Sign Up for a Claim.MD Account
Claim.MD is a clearinghouse that you can use for electronic claim submission in the USA. If you don't have a Claim.MD account yet, sign up on the Claim.MD website.

Step 2: Complete Enrollment in Claim.MD
Complete the enrollment process in Claim.MD for the payers you bill.
- Complete your enrollment based on how you are credentialed with the insurance company.
- Each practitioner on your team completes their own enrollment.
- Create a tracking sheet using the Claim.MD payer list. This helps you stay on top of following up on enrollments.
- Some insurance companies require a few extra steps, so read the requirements at the bottom of each enrollment form. For example, some payers send you an approval or denial when your enrollment is accepted, and you then contact Claim.MD to let them know it was approved.
- For more information, see this Claim.MD help article.
💡 Continue to submit claims through Office Ally or your established clearinghouse until you have completed all payer enrollment in Claim.MD. This helps prevent disruptions in cash flow.
Step 3: Link Claim.MD to Practice Better
Once you have a Claim.MD account, link it to Practice Better with an API key. Before you generate your key, set these two options in your Claim.MD account:
- Turn off Transmit Approval Required.
- Set Vendor Access to No Access.

Step 4: Start Billing Through Practice Better and Claim.MD
Once your enrollment is complete and Claim.MD is linked, you get a fully integrated solution with all your ERAs delivered automatically to Practice Better, so you don't leave the platform like you do with Office Ally or other clearinghouses.
You no longer need to export claims and upload them to another platform. You can edit claims in your claims manager and resubmit them all in one place. To learn how to start managing and submitting claims, see Managing Insurance Claims with Claim.MD →
What Carries Over When You Switch
- Claims submitted directly in Claim.MD: These do not sync to Practice Better.
- Claims submitted before you linked Claim.MD: ERAs for these claims are not available in Practice Better. View them in Claim.MD.
- Claims you submit in Practice Better after linking: Rejected claims can be fixed and resubmitted in either Practice Better or Claim.MD. The ERA for the resubmitted claim syncs to Practice Better.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I still use Office Ally after I switch?
A: Yes. You can still export claims from Practice Better as an Office Ally file. Submit each claim through only one clearinghouse. Avoid submitting the same claim through both Office Ally and Claim.MD, and use both only if each one handles different claims. Learn more in Exporting Claims for Office Ally →
Q: Is Claim.MD available outside the USA?
A: No. The Claim.MD integration is available to practitioners in the USA only.
Q: Does Claim.MD cost anything?
A: Yes. Visit the Claim.MD pricing page for current plans.
Q: Can I still use Practice Better's insurance billing features without Claim.MD?
A: Yes. You can still set up your insurance billing profile, create and export claims (CMS-1500 forms), and create and send superbills to clients. You submit claims externally, and you won't be able to track their ERAs in Practice Better. Learn more in the Insurance Billing FAQ →
Q: How do I know my enrollment is complete?
A: Track each payer on your enrollment tracking sheet and watch for the approval from the payer or Claim.MD described at the bottom of each enrollment form.
