Instant Alerts Overview
Instant Alerts allow you to receive notifications about events from Practice Better, even when you are not actively using the Portal. These alerts are compatible with:
- Mobile app (iOS, Android)
- Windows (Chrome, Firefox)
- Mac (Chrome)
Notifications appear as popups similar to those from services like Facebook and WhatsApp, and each notification includes a button for relevant actions.
Enabling Instant Alerts
- Go to Settings > Notification Preferences.
- Click Enable to enable Instant Alerts on your device:
- This process needs to be completed for each device you wish to receive alerts on.
- On mobile tap the hamburger menu in the top-left, then Settings & Preferences > Notification Preferences.

By default, Instant Alerts for your browser are not displayed while you are actively using the portal.
Enable this option to display alerts while you're logged in.

Disabling Instant Alerts
Instant Alerts can be disabled from the Notification Preferences page at any time.
To disable alerts for all devices simultaneously, click the More Options menu (three dots) and select Disable all.
Managing Snooze Settings
Set up Snooze Periods to temporarily disable Instant Alerts during specific times (e.g., weekends or after business hours):
- Click the Snooze icon on the Notification Preferences page.
- Choose the weekday and time range for your snooze period (e.g., disable alerts on Sundays from 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM).
- You can select multiple days or create overnight snooze periods (e.g., from 6 PM to 7 AM).
- Add additional snooze periods by clicking Add period in the bottom-left corner.
- Optionally, allow clients to mark messages as urgent and notify you during Snooze Periods.
By enabling this setting, we'll send you notifications during your snooze period for direct messages your clients mark as urgent. By default, clients will see the following message:Wendy Smith may not respond to your message right away. Mark as urgent.

Customizing what notifications you receive
Upon creating a Practice Better account, you are automatically subscribed to all notifications, including session requests and new chat messages.
You can customize these notifications under the section,"Notify me when clients..." toggle notifications on/off for email and Instant Alerts (grey indicates disabled notifications).
Group Chat Notifications
As a practitioner or coach, you can choose to receive notifications for:
- All messages in group chats
- Only messages where you are mentioned (e.g., "@Wendy Smith")
- Replies to your posts
Clients can choose to receive notifications of mentions, replies, and posts made by their practitioner/coach.
Privacy Settings (Practitioners Only)
By default, secure messages and completed task notes are not included in notification emails. You can enable these details by checking the appropriate boxes in the Notification Preferences page.
Customize how client names are displayed in emails and Instant Alerts by adjusting the Client name style setting from the following options:
- Full name (e.g. Mary Smith)
- First name and last initial (e.g. Mary S.)
- Last name and first initial (e.g. Smith, M.)
- First name only (e.g. Mary)
- First and last initials only (e.g. M. S.)
Announcements, Product Updates, and Offers (Practitioners Only)
Practice Better occasionally sends updates about new functionalities and offers from partners. You can opt-out of these notifications at any time.
Important emails regarding account changes (e.g., password updates, subscription changes) will still be sent.
