If you subscribe to That Clean Life you can embed nutrition plans and recipes directly into your Protocols and Programs so clients can view, use, and even shop for them from their Practice Better client portal. This article covers what practitioners and clients each see, and how editing, exporting, and Instacart shopping work once a resource is embedded.

Before You Begin
Before you or your clients can view That Clean Life resources in Practice Better, you'll need:
- An active That Clean Life integration connected to your Practice Better account. Learn more about Setting Up Your That Clean Life Integration β
Β - At least one nutrition plan, collection, or recipe embedded into a Protocol Template or Program Module.
- To embed a resource in a Protocol, see this section of the setup guide.
- To embed a resource in a Program Module, see this section of the setup guide, or Adding Resources to a Program Module.
π Note: Clients don't need their own That Clean Life account or subscription. As long as they have access to your Practice Better client portal, they can view any That Clean Life resource you share with them through a Protocol or Program.
Accessing That Clean Life Resources in the Practitioner Portal
Previewing That Clean Life Embeds in Protocols
When That Clean Life resources are embedded in a Protocol Template, the resource name and embed settings will be visible within the template.
Practitioners can preview the full nutrition plan in a client's Published Protocol.

Previewing That Clean Life Embeds in Programs
When That Clean Life resources are embedded in a Program Module, only the resource name is displayed.Β
Learn more about Adding Resources to a Program Module βΒ
When previewing the Program Module, practitioners will see a placeholder for the nutrition plan instead of the full resource.
π Note: The full resource isn't shown in preview because each registrant of the program receives their own individual copy of the embedded resource once they enroll.
π‘ Tip: To see exactly what a client will experience, add yourself as a test client and enroll in the Program. A test client fully mirrors the real client experience, including Journal and Instacart access. Since it uses a client space in your plan's client limit, treat it as a temporary check rather than a permanent addition.
Embedded Resource Settings:
π‘ Each embedded resource has its own Allow Edits and Allow Exports settings, configured per embed when you add the resource. See how to configure these in the setup guide.
- With Allow Edits enabled, each client in the program can customize their own version of the meal plan.
- With Allow Exports enabled, each client in the program can download a PDF of the meal plan or recipes.
Accessing That Clean Life Resources in the Client Portal
Clients can view That Clean Life nutrition plans shared by their practitioner within Protocols or Programs. No separate That Clean Life login is required.
π Note: If a practitioner removes an embedded resource or disconnects the That Clean Life integration, clients will see this message where the resource used to be: "You are trying to access a protected document. Looks like you don't have authorization to view this shared document, or it could have expired."
For additional guidance on interacting with the resources themselves, we recommend the following videos:
- How to Use Your Meal Planning Guide (That Clean Life YouTube): covers meal planning using a blank planner and a collection of recipes.
- How to Use Your Recipe Collection (That Clean Life YouTube): demonstrates how to use a collection of recipes effectively.
- How to Use Your Meal Plan (That Clean Life YouTube): guides users through using a pre-made meal plan.
Interacting with a That Clean Life Embed in a Client's Protocol
When the practitioner enables Allow Edits, the client can freely modify their personal meal plan as needed.
β οΈ Important: These changes are only reflected in Practice Better. They will not sync back to the original resource in the practitioner's That Clean Life account.
When the practitioner enables Allow Exports, the client can export the plan and/or individual recipes as a PDF.
Interacting with a That Clean Life Embed in a Client's Program
When Allow Edits is enabled, each client in the program can update their personal meal plan independently. Every client receives their own unique copy, so changes made by one client in a program never affect another's plan.
β οΈ Important: As with Protocols, edits a client makes to their program meal plan stay in Practice Better only. They never sync back to the practitioner's original That Clean Life resource.
When Allow Exports is enabled, clients can export their plan and/or individual recipes as a PDF.

Logging Food Entries in the Client Journal
Once you've shared a recipe with a client through a Protocol or Program, that recipe becomes immediately available as an option in their Food & Mood Journal, provided you have enabled Food Entries for your clientβs Journal. Learn more about Setting Up Client Journals and Reviewing Entries βΒ
For clients to log recipes shared from embeds:
- When logging a food journal entry, the client selects the Shared Recipes tab.
Β - They'll see a list of every resource you've shared with them and can click any recipe to add it to their entry.
π Note: The Shared Recipes tab only appears once you've shared at least one recipe with that client through the That Clean Life integration. If nothing has been shared yet, the client won't see this tab in their journal.

Shopping with Instacart
Clients can purchase groceries for their meal plan directly through the Shop via Instacart integration from That Clean Life. This option is enabled by default.
π Note: Instacart is a separate, third-party service from both Practice Better and That Clean Life. Clicking Shop redirects the client to Instacart, where they'll need their own Instacart account to complete checkout. This feature is currently limited to clients in the USA and Canada.
- From the planner view, the client clicks the Shop button.
Β - They're redirected to Instacart with their cart pre-loaded with the ingredients for their meal plan.
