Before You Begin
Not seeing Google Health as an integration option?
Your practitioner needs to enable your Journal with at least Activity or Sleep entries first. Contact them to ask them to turn on the applicable Journal entry types for you.
📍 Note: Fitbit is now part of Google Health, so this integration appears as "Google Health" on your Integrations page. Your Journal entries still show up under "Fitbit Activity" and "Fitbit Sleep," that's just how we label this data type.
Linking Your Google Health Account
- In the client portal, go to your Settings & Preferences > 3rd Party Integrations page. In the mobile app, swipe right to open the hamburger menu, tap Settings & Preferences in the bottom-left corner, and select 3rd Party Integration.
- Click Link next to Google Health.
- You'll be taken to Google's sign-in screen. Log in and grant Practice Better permission to access your activity and sleep data.
- Once authorized, you'll be redirected back to Practice Better, and your account is connected.
Up to three months of historical data syncs automatically once you're reconnected.
If You've Previously Linked Fitbit
If you'd already linked a Fitbit account before, you'll see a Reauthenticate option instead of Link. Click it and log in with Google to keep your data syncing. Your previously synced data stays exactly where it is, and up to three months of historical data resyncs automatically once you're reconnected.
⚠️ Important: Google is retiring the legacy Fitbit connection on September 30, 2026. If you haven't reauthenticated by then, your data will stop syncing until you do. Nothing already synced is lost, and you may see a notification in your portal reminding you to reconnect.
Viewing Your Synced Data in Your Lifestyle Journal
We'll automatically pull in your recent activity and sleep data once your account is connected.
You can view this data by going to My Resources > Journals. You'll see Google Health Sleep and Google Health Activity sections alongside your other Lifestyle Journal entries.
Resyncing Your Data
Your data refreshes automatically throughout the day. To manually refresh a specific day, click the three dots in the top-right corner of your Journal and select the Sync Google Health option from the menu.
Unlinking Your Google Health Account
- Go to your Settings & Preferences > 3rd Party Integrations page.
- Click Unlink next to Google Health.
- You will be prompted to unlink your account. Select one of the following options to complete the unlinking process.
- Just unlink: Unlink your account without removing the Google Health data already synced to your journals.
- Remove data: Remove previously synced Google Health data from your journals.
Troubleshooting
Calorie History Only Syncs 14 Days Back
Google Health's API limits calorie data to a rolling 14-day window. Steps, distance, and floors can still sync up to 90 days back, but calorie history older than 14 days can't be backfilled. This is a limitation of Google's API, not a Practice Better setting, so there's no way to recover older calorie history once it falls outside that window.
Floors Not Showing Up
Floor tracking depends on your wearable device's own sensors, and not every device reports it. If your floors aren't appearing in your Journal, check your device's companion app first to confirm it tracks floors at all before reaching out to support.
