What Are Passkeys?
A passkey is a digital credential that replaces traditional passwords by using advanced cryptographic technology. Instead of typing a password, you authenticate using your device's built-in security features like Face ID, Touch ID, fingerprint recognition, or a device PIN.
When you create a passkey, your device generates two cryptographic keys. A private key stays securely on your device and never leaves it, while a public key is stored on Practice Better's servers. These keys work together to verify your identity without ever sharing a password or secret that could be stolen or guessed.
Think of it as having a secure digital key that only you can unlock, making it impossible for attackers to trick you into giving away your credentials.
Benefits of Using Passkeys
Passkeys transform the way you access Practice Better, offering advantages that traditional passwords simply cannot match.
Enhanced Security: Passkeys provide stronger protection against phishing attacks. Because they only work with Practice Better's legitimate website and app, malicious sites can't trick you into using your passkey elsewhere. Even if Practice Better's servers were breached, only public keys would be exposed, which are useless to attackers without the private keys secured on your devices.
Effortless Authentication: Say goodbye to remembering complex passwords or dealing with password resets. With passkeys, signing in is as simple as unlocking your phone or computer. A quick fingerprint scan, face recognition, or PIN entry gets you into your account in seconds.
Universal Availability: Your passkeys automatically sync across all your devices through services like iCloud Keychain, Google Password Manager, or Windows Hello. Create a passkey on your laptop, and it's instantly available on your phone and tablet. You can even use a passkey from one device to sign in on another through secure cross-device authentication.
💡 Tip: Your biometric data never leaves your device and is never shared with Practice Better. We only receive confirmation that your authentication was successful, keeping your personal information completely private.
Device and Browser Compatibility
Passkeys work across a wide range of modern devices and browsers, ensuring you can access Practice Better however you prefer to work.

Adding a passkey to your Practice Better account takes just a few moments. You'll need to be signed in with your existing credentials to set up your first passkey.
For Practitioners or Clients
- Log in to your Practice Better account.
- Go to Settings > All Settings & Preferences.
- Locate the Login & Security section and click on Login Options.
- Click Add Passkey.
- A verification code will be sent to the email you have registered with your Practice Better account. Enter the code and continue with the prompts.
- Follow the prompts on your device to authenticate using your biometric scanner or device PIN.
- Add a nickname for your passkey when prompted (for example, "iPhone 13" or "Work Laptop").
- Your passkey is now ready to use.
✅ All set! You can now use your passkey to sign in quickly and securely to Practice Better.
Signing In With a Passkey
With your Passkey set up, click the Sign in with Passkey button on the Practice Better sign-in page and follow the prompts to sign in.
Managing Multiple Passkeys
Practice Better allows you to create multiple passkeys for different devices, giving you flexible access from wherever you work. You might set up one passkey on your work laptop, another on your personal phone, and a third on your tablet.
Click Add Passkey to save another passkey using the same method described above.
Each passkey gets its own nickname, making it easy to identify which device it belongs to. This is especially helpful if you need to remove a passkey from a device you no longer use.
Removing a Passkey
If you want to delete a passkey from your account:
- Go to Settings > All Settings & Preferences > Login Options.
- Locate the passkey you want to remove in your list of authentication methods.
- Click the trash icon next to the passkey.
- Confirm the removal.
📍 Note: Removing a passkey from Practice Better does not affect your account data or settings. This simply updates your available login options. Make sure you have another login method active before removing your only passkey.
Using Your Passkey to Sign In
Signing in with a passkey is designed to be faster and more intuitive than traditional password login.
- Go to the Practice Better sign-in page.
- Click the Sign in with Passkey option.
- If you have multiple accounts, select which account you want to use.
- Authenticate using your device's security method (Face ID, fingerprint, PIN, or security key).
- You're signed in and ready to work.
Your browser or device will automatically detect available passkeys and guide you through the authentication process. The entire experience typically takes just seconds.
💡 Tip: If you're signing in on a new device that doesn't have your passkey, you can use cross-device authentication. Simply scan the QR code displayed on the new device using a device that has your passkey, then authenticate on your trusted device to complete the sign-in.
Managing Your Login Options
Practice Better gives you complete flexibility with your authentication preferences. You can use passkeys, Apple ID, Google Sign In, or traditional email and password — or enable multiple methods for added convenience.
- Signing In with Apple →
- Signing In with Google →
- Updating your login email address →
- Resetting your password →
Passkeys work seamlessly alongside your other login methods. You might use a passkey on your primary devices for quick access, while keeping email and password available as a backup option for situations where biometric authentication isn't practical.
📍 Note: Each passkey can only be linked to one Practice Better account at a time. Multiple users cannot share the same passkey, ensuring secure, unique access for every account.
Troubleshooting Passkey Issues
If you're experiencing difficulties with your passkey, there are several straightforward solutions to restore access to your account.
Passkey Not Working
If your passkey fails to authenticate, first ensure you're using a supported browser and device. Check that your device's operating system and browser are up to date with the latest versions. You can also try using a different login method, such as email and password, Apple ID, or Google Sign In, to access your account.
Lost or Replaced Device
If you've lost a device or upgraded to a new one, you won't lose access to your passkeys. Services like iCloud Keychain, Google Password Manager, and Windows Hello should automatically sync your passkeys to your new device when you sign in with your cloud account. If your passkey isn't available yet, simply use one of your other login methods to access Practice Better.
Setting Up a Backup Login Method
While passkeys are highly reliable, we recommend maintaining multiple login options for maximum flexibility. Consider keeping email and password authentication active as a backup, or linking Apple ID or Google Sign In as alternative methods. This ensures you can always access your account regardless of device availability or biometric sensor issues.
To add a backup method, navigate to Settings > All Settings & Preferences > Login Options and link your preferred authentication options.
