Logging Entries
To log foods in your Food & Mood Journal, click the Fast Action Button in the bottom-right corner of your Client Portal home screen or Daily Journal Summary page.
Select Log food from the options provided to open the food entry popup:
You can log foods in a variety of ways: by searching the database for common and branded foods; scanning a barcode or taking photos of your meals.
Searching the Food Database
Start typing the name of your food into the text box at the top of the popup. Suggestions matching your search will start to appear in a picklist below. Suggestions will include foods from the database and foods/recipes you've saved:
Select a suggestion or press enter/submit to view a complete list of all foods matching your criteria:
Once you've selected a food, enter the meal time, date and time consumed, and the number of servings consumed to submit your entry:
Using the Barcode Scanner
In the mobile app, you also have the option of scanning the UPC/barcode on the packaging of your food item. Select the barcode icon in the top-right corner of the popup.
The food will be automatically detected once the barcode is placed inside the scanning area.
Please note: Practice Better uses the nutrition database Nutritionix which is based in North America, and the Barcode Scanner may not recognize products outside of Canada and the United States.
If you need to report discrepancies for branded food items, please follow the instructions here.
Entering Free Form Entries
The the free-form entry option is an easy way to provide a description of your meal or combination of food items. Select Add a free form entry from the options under the Add Entry tab:
We'll also auto-detect the ingredients included in your description as you type. You can choose to include the nutrient data as part of your entry by clicking Use data:
Uploading a Photo of Your Meal
You can also upload photos of your meals to the journal. The mobile app also provides an option to take a photo using your device camera.
A description can be included with your photo to provide more information (and optional nutrient details) to your practitioner to review.
Using Shared Recipes
If your practitioner has shared That Clean Life recipes with you, you can find them in the Shared Recipes tab:
Alternatively, you can start typing the name of the recipe in the text box at the top of the popup. Suggestions matching your search will start to appear in a picklist below. Recipes from That Clean Life will be identified by the Shared Recipe categorization underneath the food item:
Select a suggestion or press enter/View all results to view a complete list of all foods matching your criteria. Recipes that have been shared with you by your practitioner will be in the Shared Recipes category:
Once you’ve selected a recipe, you have the option to enter the meal time, date and time consumed, and the number of servings before saving your entry.
Tracking Mood, Location, and Hunger
Click the banner above the Save button to add details about where you consumed your meal, your level of hunger, and how you felt before and after eating.
You can also edit this information by clicking the pencil icon at the bottom of each meal on your Daily Journal Summary page:
Logging Multiple Entries
Use the "+1" button to log your food and add another entry:
You can also log multiple entries from your Recent Entries list by selecting Add multiple:
Check the checkbox beside the entries you'd like to log and click Next to review and submit your meal:
Copying Entries
You can copy meals from one day to another by clicking Copy entries in the top-right corner of your Daily Journal Summary page:
Select the day and meals you'd like to include then click Copy:
Viewing Nutrient Details
You can view a full nutrient profile by clicking on the nutrient breakdown icon beside a specific food or meal in your Daily Journal Summary:
This will open a Nutrient Breakdown popup with a full nutrient profile, including macronutrients, carbohydrates, fats, protein, vitamins, and minerals.
You can view multiple nutrient profiles simultaneously, allowing you to compare specific foods, foods vs meals, and days:
Logging Water Intake
You can track your daily water intake from your Client Portal home page or your Daily Journal Summary page.
From the home page, select Log water from the Fast Action Button in the bottom-right corner or from the Daily Summary widget:
You can quickly add water to your daily total by using the quick add buttons below:
Click Edit total to adjust the total amount of water consumed for the day.
