Understanding Program Quizzes
Program quizzes serve as knowledge checks and engagement tools rather than formal assessments. They help clients reflect on what they've learned, identify areas where they might need additional support, and stay actively involved with your program content.
📍 Note: Quiz features are available on the Plus plan and Team plan.
Quizzes vs. Forms: When to Use Which
While both quizzes and forms collect information from clients, they serve different purposes:
Use quizzes when you want to:
- Check knowledge retention in educational programs
- Create interactive learning experiences
- Add accountability through module completion tracking
- Provide immediate feedback with correct/incorrect answers
Use forms when you need:
- More question types (scales, file uploads, signatures, etc.)
- To send standalone assessments outside of programs
- To collect intake information or health histories
- More flexible data collection options
📍 Note: Quizzes can only be used within programs and cannot be sent to clients independently. If you need standalone assessments, use forms instead.
Creating Your First Quiz
Building a quiz starts in your quiz library, where you'll create reusable quizzes that can be added to any program module.
Before adding quizzes to modules, create at least one quiz:
- Go to My Practice > My Programs.
- Click the Quizzes tab at the top of the page.
- Click Create quiz from the Fast Action Button in the bottom-right corner.
- Name your quiz with a clear, descriptive title that tells clients what knowledge area you're assessing.
- Add an optional description that explains the quiz's purpose or provides instructions.
- Continue adding your quiz questions in the quiz builder.
Available Question Types
Quizzes support several content elements to create engaging assessments:

Adding Images to Quiz Questions
To make your quizzes more engaging and visual:
- Click to add a Text block element in the quiz builder.
- Use the rich text editor toolbar to insert images.
- Upload images from your computer that help illustrate questions or provide visual context.
💡 Tip: Visual elements can make quizzes more engaging and help explain complex concepts. Consider adding diagrams, photos, or infographics to support your questions.
Configuring Quiz Questions
Each question in your quiz needs correct answers defined so clients receive accurate feedback.
- After adding a question (Yes/No, Checkbox, or Multiple Choice), select which answer(s) are correct.
- For checkbox questions with multiple correct answers, mark all applicable options as correct.
- Optionally add explanatory text that appears after clients submit their answer, helping them understand why an answer is correct or incorrect.
- Arrange questions in the order you want clients to encounter them by using the small arrows to move questions up or down.
- Click Save when you've finished building your quiz.
✅ You're all set: Your quiz is now available to add to any program module.
Adding Quizzes to Program Modules
Once you've created a quiz, you can attach it to any module in your programs. Quizzes unlock at the same time as their corresponding modules, ensuring clients have completed the educational content before testing their knowledge.
- Go to My Practice > My Programs, locate your program, and click Manage.
- Select the module where you want to add a quiz, then click Edit.
- Go to the Quiz tab and click Add quiz to complete.
- Select your quiz from the Quiz dropdown menu.
- Optionally check This quiz must be completed in order to complete the module if you want to require completion.
- Click Add to include the quiz in the module.
💡 Tip: Quizzes work beautifully at the end of educational modules to reinforce learning, or at the beginning to assess baseline knowledge before diving into content.
Understanding Required vs. Optional Quizzes
When you mark a quiz as required for module completion, clients must complete the quiz before the module shows as finished in their progress tracking. However, there are no pass/fail thresholds — clients only need to submit answers, regardless of whether they're correct or incorrect. This keeps the focus on learning and engagement rather than creating barriers to progress.
Managing Quizzes
As your quiz library grows, you'll need to edit, reuse, duplicate, and organize your assessments across programs.
Editing Existing Quizzes
To update a quiz's content or questions:
- Go to My Practice > My Programs > Quizzes.
- Click Edit next to the quiz you want to modify.
- Make your changes to questions, answers, or content.
- Click Save to update the quiz.
📍 Note: Updates to quizzes will sync to any modules where the quiz is attached. However, clients who have already completed the quiz won't see the new updates — their submitted responses remain unchanged in their health records.
Duplicating Quizzes
Create variations of existing quizzes without starting from scratch:
- Go to My Practice > My Programs > Quizzes.
- Click the More Options menu (3 dots) next to the quiz you want to duplicate and select Duplicate.
- Edit the duplicated quiz to create your variation.
- Click Save to keep the copied quiz in your library.
💡 Tip: Duplicate quizzes when you want to create similar assessments for different program modules or adjust difficulty levels for different client populations.
Reusing Quizzes Across Programs
The same quiz can be added to multiple programs and modules. This is perfect for standard knowledge checks that apply across different offerings — like a foundational nutrition quiz used in multiple programs or a wellness assessment that appears in several modules.
Simply follow the steps in "Adding Quizzes to Program Modules" for each program where you want to use the quiz.
Deleting Quizzes
To remove a quiz from your library:
- Go to My Practice > My Programs > Quizzes.
- Click the More Options menu (3 dots) next to the quiz you want to remove and select Delete.
- Confirm the deletion.
⚠️ Important: Deleting a quiz from your library doesn't remove completed quiz responses from client records. Any client who already took the quiz will retain their responses and results in their health record, even after the quiz is deleted.
Understanding Quiz Results
Quiz results provide valuable insights into client comprehension and engagement while becoming permanent parts of their health records.
How Quiz Scoring Works
Quizzes show results based on correct versus incorrect responses, but there's no numerical score or percentage. Clients see which questions they answered correctly and which they missed, along with any explanatory content you've added. This feedback-focused approach emphasizes learning over evaluation.
Client Experience with Quizzes
After completing a quiz, clients immediately see correct answers and any explanations you've provided. This instant feedback reinforces learning while the content is fresh in their minds. Clients can view their quiz history and responses anytime by navigating to their completed program modules, but they cannot retake quizzes once submitted.
Viewing Quiz Results
Quiz responses appear in the same place as form submissions within each client's record:
- Go to the client's profile.
- Go to the Forms & Waivers section.
- Locate the quiz by name to view the client's responses.
- Review individual answers to see which questions they answered correctly and incorrectly.
You can see both overall results and drill down into individual client answers for detailed insights into their understanding.
Notifications
You'll receive notifications when clients complete quizzes, keeping you informed about their progress and engagement. This allows you to follow up with clients who struggled with certain concepts or celebrate those who demonstrated mastery.
Exporting Quiz Results
Quiz results can be exported along with other client data for analysis, reporting, or record-keeping purposes. Use Practice Better's standard export functionality to download quiz responses in your preferred format.
Quizzes transform your programs from passive content consumption into active learning experiences. By strategically placing knowledge checks throughout your program journey, you create accountability, boost retention, and gain valuable insights into where clients might need additional support.
