Adding Fullscript Products to a Protocol
Fullscript products can be added to both Protocols and Protocol Templates.
Go to the Protocols section of your client's file, then click the Fast Action Button in the bottom right corner to create a new Protocol for your client.
Optionally, you can create a Protocol Template that you can reuse with multiple clients.
- To create a protocol template, go to My Practice > Protocol Templates and click the Fast Action Button in the bottom-right corner.
- You can choose to create a Protocol template from scratch or create a new one from your saved Fullscript templates.
Select Add supplement recommendation from the options provided or the Fast Action Button to search for products from your Fullscript Catalog.
On the Supplement Recommendation page, you'll see an option to search for supplements by name, brand, supplement type (e.g. Antioxidants), allergens (e.g. Dairy Free) and certifications (e.g. Vegan, Non GMO Verified) condition.
If you've added favorites to your Fullscript Dashboard, you can also access these products from the My Favorites section.
Searching for In-stock products only
Your Fullscript catalog includes in-stock, back-ordered, and unavailable products.
After you type in a keyword, you can restrict the search to return only in-stock products by clicking the Available icon to the right of the search box.
Viewing Product Details and Comparing Similar Products
You can view product details (e.g. MSRP, description, recommended dosage) by clicking on the 3 dots next to the product in your search results:
A pop-up will appear with additional information on the selected supplement. You can resize, drag, and move this pop-up around to reference the supplement details while creating your recommendation.
Comparing Products
Clicking the 3 dots next to another search result will add the product to the supplement details popup, allowing you to easily compare products side-by-side.
Click the [+] button in the top-right corner of a product to add it to your current recommendation.
Finding Similar Products
You can also find similar products at the bottom of each product displayed in the pop-up.
The Similar Products section allows you to swap products that may be currently back-ordered or unavailable.
Clicking on one of these products will add it to your current product comparison:
Selecting a product from the search results
Click the Select button next to a search result to add the product to your current supplement recommendation.
If the product has multiple variants (e.g. 30 capsules, 60 capsules), you'll be prompted to select one to add to your recommendation:
Using Recommended Dosages
Some suppliers may include recommended dosages for products you add to your protocols. By default, you'll be prompted to include the supplement's recommended dose, frequency, and notes (if available). You can disable this pop-up by clicking Don't ask me again, or from your Fullscript Settings.
Adjusting Supplement Dosages
Once you've selected a supplement or variant, complete the recommendation details.
You will notice that there are a couple of fields to complete when recommending supplements from the Fullscript database. These include Dose (required), Duration, Frequency, and Units (required).
Additional Supplement Details
You have the option to Send reminders to refill this supplement.
The Units field allows you to define how many units of a particular supplement (e.g. 3 bottles) will be included in the final Fullscript recommendation and order.
You can choose to Exclude supplement from Fullscript recommendation if you don't want this supplement to be linked with the client's plan in Fullscript.
Related Health Conditions
Optionally add a related health condition in the supplements details.
Type to search by keyword and select the appropriate condition. Or type and hit Enter on your keyboard to add a custom entry in this field.
Write additional information like instructions, advice or other relevant information for your client.
Once you’ve saved the details of this supplement recommendation, it will be displayed in the protocol summary page with a Fullscript badge.
Optionally, enable the setting to Import this supplement into your client's medical history when the protocol is published. Learn more.
Checking Product Availability
We recommend checking product availability before sharing protocols with your clients.
You can do this by clicking the Check Availability button in the Supplement Recommendations section.
If a product is back-ordered or unavailable, you'll still be able to add it to your recommendation.
However, you do have the option to swap it out for a similar product by clicking the Swap button next to the product:
Retrying Failed Fullscript Recommendations
In the event that an associated Fullscript recommendation fails to be created when you publish your protocol, Practice Better will send you an email notification and display a warning message underneath your protocol.
You can click on the More Info button to access additional details regarding the failure and steps to resolve the failure, as well as an option to re-publish your Fullscript recommendation by clicking on the Retry button.

Learn more about Working with Protocol Templates and Sharing Protocols With Clients
If you're working with a Protocol Template, and you're ready to share it with a client, click Save > Save as new protocol.
You'll be prompted to select a client, and a new Protocol draft will be created for that client.
From there, you can click Save > Save and publish to share your Protocol with your client.
Log in to your Fullscript account if you need to make adjustments to the prescription generated from your protocol.
Client Notifications
When you publish a protocol, we'll automatically generate the corresponding recommendation in Fullscript so you don’t have to do the work twice.
Fullscript will email your client with instructions on how to order their supplements from your dispensary.
When you publish a protocol with Fullscript supplements, your clients will receive two notifications:
- From Practice Better, "New Protocol Available" email
- From Fullscript, "[Practitioner name] sent you a recommendation" email
The Practice Better email will include a link for clients to view their protocol in the Client Portal, and another link to go directly to Fullscript to order supplements.
Clients will also be presented with a link to order supplements from their protocol in the Client Portal:
