Before You Begin
📍 Note: A few things affect what you'll see when customizing your dashboard.
-
Multiple dashboards require the Professional plan or higher. On the Starter and Sprout plans, you'll still see the Add a new dashboard button, but clicking it opens an upgrade prompt instead of creating a new dashboard. You can still fully customize your single dashboard on these plans; widgets, bookmarks, and pinned clients all work the same way.
-
The team member display filter depends on your team access permissions. Some widgets, on Team plans, let you show items belonging to team members you have access to. Turning this filter on only surfaces what your existing permissions already allow; it doesn't grant new access on its own. If you enable it and don't see teammates' items, check your permissions first. Learn more about Enabling Team Members to Perform Actions on Behalf of Others →
- Widget and dashboard customization is desktop only. In the mobile app, you can switch between dashboards you've already created on desktop, but you can't add or remove widgets or create new dashboards from your phone.
Adding Widgets to Your Dashboard
Widgets give you a quick view of what's happening in your practice right from your homepage. To add one, click Add widget to dashboard near the top-right corner of your dashboard.
Available widgets include:
- Upcoming Sessions
- Pending Invoices
- Practice Better Blog
- Active Programs
- Recent Labs
- Booking Requests
- My Tasks
- Package Requests
- Review Journal Entries
💡 If your account is integrated with DrFirst for e-prescribing, you'll also see a DrFirst Notifications widget in the list.
Once at least one widget is added, you can start customizing your dashboard.
To rearrange your widgets:
- Click the Dashboard Settings gear icon at the top-right of your dashboard.
- In the Dashboard Settings pop-up, click and drag the group of dots to the left of a widget title to reorder them.
- Click Save changes to close the pop-up.
To manage your view of widget content:
- Use the collapse and expand button in the top-right corner of any widget to toggle its content display.
- Click the gear icon on a widget to customize its view options.
Filtering Widgets for Your Team
On the Team plan, the gear icon on applicable widgets includes an option to display items for team members you have access to.
When this filter is on, you'll see a number in a red circle on the widget indicating it's active.
📍 Note: This filter only shows what your team permissions already allow. If you turn it on and don't see a teammate's items, that's a permissions issue, not a bug. Learn more about Enabling Team Members to Perform Actions on Behalf of Others →
Removing Widgets
To remove a widget, click the More Options menu (3 dots) on it and select Remove widget.
⚠️ Important: Removing a widget clears any custom settings you configured for it. If you add the same widget back later, you'll need to configure it again.
Adding Bookmarks
Use bookmarks to quickly access other websites, like your online supplement dispensary, or specific pages in your Practice Better portal, like a client's Medical History page.
- On the left side of your Dashboard, click Add bookmark.
- Enter the website title and URL in the pop-up and click Add bookmark.
- To manage your bookmarks, click the Edit icon to the right of the Add bookmark option.
- In the Manage Bookmarks pop-up, click Reorder to rearrange your bookmarks, using the up and down arrows.
- In the Manage Bookmarks pop-up, click the Trash icon to remove a bookmark.
- Click Save changes to close the pop-up.
In the mobile app and mobile browsers, find your bookmarks by tapping the three lines in the top-left corner of your screen, then tapping Bookmarks to view and open them.
Pinning Clients
Pin clients to your dashboard to quickly access information in their files. Click the pin button in the top-left corner of a client's record to pin them, or pin clients directly from your My Clients page or a client's Recent Activity page.
At the bottom left corner, click the Client Hub button to open a client's Hub instead of going to their Recent Activity page. You can also press and hold Ctrl + Shift +z on your keyboard, to launch a Client Hub. Learn more about Using Client Hubs →
Adding New Dashboards
You can create additional dashboards to better organize the information on your homepage. For example, set up one dashboard for booking-related information, like upcoming sessions and pending requests, and another for tasks and reminders.
This feature requires the Professional plan or higher. On Starter and Sprout plans, clicking Add a new dashboard opens an upgrade prompt; your single dashboard remains fully customizable regardless of plan.
- Click the New dashboard button to the right of your screen.
- Name your dashboard and click Done.
- Toggle between dashboards using the tabs at the top of your screen.
Updating the Default Dashboard
Click Make default to the right of your screen to change which dashboard displays first when you log in.
Deleting a Dashboard
Click Delete dashboard to remove a dashboard from your homepage.
📍 Note: On mobile, you can view and switch between dashboards you've already created on desktop, but you can't add, delete, or rename dashboards from the mobile app.
Resetting Your Dashboard
To restore your dashboard to its default settings, go to Settings & Preferences > Portal Preferences, scroll to the bottom and click the Reset dashboards button.
⚠️ Important: Resetting your dashboard removes any bookmarks and layouts you've created, and this can't be undone.
📍 Note: This reset only affects your own dashboard. If you're a team owner, clicking Reset dashboards won't reset your team members' dashboards; each practitioner and admin on your team has their own Reset dashboards button in their own settings.
