If you cannot find a supplement in Fullscript or the built-in database, you can add your own. Save a custom supplement with a name and price, then add it to an invoice as a line item or to a protocol as a recommendation.

Before You Begin
- Any team member with permission, including admins, can create custom supplements from My Practice > Nutrition.
- Custom supplements save a name and price in your account. Practice Better does not handle ordering, fulfillment, or inventory for them.
- Adding a supplement to a protocol and adding it to an invoice are two separate steps. A protocol shows your client the recommendation, such as dose and frequency, but does not bill them. Add the supplement to an invoice when you are ready to charge for it.
- Supplements in a protocol or program are not added to an invoice automatically.
Creating a Supplement
- Go to My Practice > Nutrition > My Supplements.
- Click the red Fast Action Button in the bottom-right corner and select Create supplement.
- Fill in the supplement information and set your price.
- Click Save.
Adding Your Supplements to an Invoice
Your saved supplement fills in the price you entered, so you do not need to retype it.
To add a saved supplement to an invoice:
- Create a new invoice or add a new line item to an invoice draft. Learn more about Creating and Managing Invoices in Practice Better →
- Start typing the name of the supplement and click it.
- Confirm the price. The price you entered when you saved the supplement fills in automatically.
- Click Done to save the line item.
- Complete the rest of the details in your invoice and either process or send it to your client.
Setting Tax on a Custom Supplement
The Create supplement form does not include a tax field, so you cannot save a tax rate on the supplement itself.
Tax is applied on the invoice instead:
- Default tax rate: Line items use the default tax rate in your Invoice & Payment Settings.
- Different rate for one supplement: Click Add tax on that line item and enter a custom rate and name.

Adding Your Supplements to a Protocol
Once you have saved your supplements, you can add them as a supplement recommendation in a Protocol or Protocol Template.
- When adding a supplement recommendation to a protocol, open My Supplements to see your saved supplements.
- Click Select next to the supplement you want.
- Enter the dosage information, including frequency and duration, and click Done.
📍 Note: Adding a supplement to a protocol does not add it to an invoice. Add the supplement to an invoice separately when you are ready to bill.
Sharing Custom Supplements With Your Team
Custom supplements can be shared with your team, so team members can add them to their own protocols and invoices.
- Go to My Practice > Nutrition > My Supplements.
- To share all supplements with all team members, click the More options menu (3 dots) near the top-right of the page and select Share all supplements.
- Click Continue in the confirmation pop-up.
- All your saved custom supplements will be updated with a “Shared” badge.
- To adjust the sharing for just one supplement, click the More options menu (3 dots) to the right of a supplement.
- Select Manage Sharing.
- Make your adjustments and click Save Changes in the Manage Sharing pop-up.
Editing or Deleting a Custom Supplement
You can Edit a custom supplement to adjust its saved details. Go to My Practice > Nutrition > My Supplements, click Edit next to a supplement, make your changes and click Save Changes near the top-right.
You can delete a custom supplement you no longer use. Go to My Practice > Nutrition > My Supplements, click the More options menu (3 dots) to the right of a supplement and select Delete. Confirm your choice in the confirmation pop-up; this action cannot be undone.
📍 Note: Deleting a custom supplement does not change protocols or invoices that already include it.
